It is situated in a tiny, very peaceful village (Le Mas) near Carves in the Black Perigord part of Dordogne. On the top of a hill it has the most magnificent views over the surrounding valleys and of the medieval town of Belvès 6 kilometers away. Surrounded by fields and woods, the delightful lanes and paths all around are an invitation for wonderful country walks.
The
building is a recently restored typical perigordian barn of
250m². This is the southern side of an old 18th century farm
complex which has been carefully restored by its present owners who
live in another but completely separate part of the buildings and
assume themselves the management of the gîte. The restoration
has been undertaken using traditional materials and techniques : stone
and wood for the windows and doors, stone for a traditional fireplace,
tiles and solid chestnut for the floors, lime and sand rendering to
heighten the colour of the stone walls ... It can sleep in great
comfort 11 people without the feeling of being one on top of the other.
The pool area is fenced in and is fitted with an alarm
On the ground floor :
- a 70m² living/dining area with a traditional stone fireplace, television, library and hi-fi.
- lavatory
- an American style kitchen completely equipped with cooker, hob, dishwasher, refrigerator/deep freeze, microwave oven and all necessary pots, pans and utensils..
Two large bay windows open directly from the living room onto a 75m² stone covered patio facing due south but protected from the sun by sun sails. A large wood covered table that can seat 14 and a built in stone barbecue make it an ideal place for relaxed summer meals.
On the first floor:
- one bedroom with a double 160cm x 200cm bed with an en suite shower room and separate lavatory.
- a second bedroom with three single beds, en suite shower and separate lavatory.
- the third bedroom with its old walnut double bed has also a 90 x 190 cm divan for a possible third person. This bedroom shares a bathroom and lavatory with the fourth bedroom which has two bunk beds and a fitted cupboard full of childrens' books, games and toys.
There is also a utility room with a washing machine, ironing board etc...
